473. John Nimrod7 VAN GUNDY (Daniel William6, John5, David Jr4, David Sr3, Peter Sr2, Male1) was born in Sullivan,
Moultrie Co, IL February 8, 1891. John died August 21, 1978 in Jacksonville, Ark, Little Rock Air Base Hospital, at 87 years
of age. His body was interred August 25, 1978 in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL.
He married three times. He married Ethyl REVENAUGH. He married Mildred (VAN
GUNDY). He married Ethyle L FLYNN in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL, January 4, 1911. Ethyle was born in
Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL May 1892. Ethyle died December 1919 in Bethany, Moultrie Co, IL, at the bride's home, at 27 years of age.
Her body was interred in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. At 25 years of age Ethyle became the mother of Francis
Walter VAN GUNDY July 30, 1917.
At 26 years of age John became the father of Francis Walter VAN GUNDY July 30, 1917. He resides 1954.
John's middle name was in honor of his Grandfather Neaves. Residences & events: Moultrie Co, IL, just west of Bethany. He was a
"prosperous farmer" there according to his wife's obituary. 1919 Following the death of his first wife, he left his 2 year old son in
the care of his parents and joined the Air Force. There he decided to make a career of it and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant,
having served in both WWII and Korea. John remarried twice but neither wife wanted his son, Francis, to live with them so Francis was
forced to remain with his grandparents until adulthood. Again, a recollection from Dorisgene Webb: "I enjoyed Uncle John's visits and
Aunt Carrie usually came too, bringing a drink for dad and pop for us kids. Uncle John had a lot of interesting stories about the Army. I
aways thought he as an important officer!"

Francis Walter8 VAN GUNDY was born July 30, 1917. Francis died December 21,
1977 at 60 years of age. His body was interred in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria, Peoria Co, IL. Francis was named for his Uncle
Francis Flynn, his mother's brother. He was raised by his grandparents (both Van Gundys and Flynns) from the age of 2 after his mother
died and his father joined the Air Force. His father remarried twice but neither step-mother wanted him, so he remained with the old folks.
7/31/1922 His 5th birthday was reported in the newspapers: "Sunday was the 5th birthday anniversary of master Francis Walter VaGundy
and in honor of the event two celebrations were held. On Saturday a party was given at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan
VanGundy. Eighteen little tots attended the party. (Listed were the names of the "tots" as well as several adults, including his 4
grandparents, Mrs Dewey Van Gundy, and Mrs. Rufus Huff.) Refreshments consisting of ice cream and cake were served. Miss Carrie VanGundy
officiated as hostess. Sunday his other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Flynn, with whom Francis Walter is making his home, his mother
being dead and his father in service at Rantoul, gave another party at Fairview Park in Decatur.....A big birthday dinner was partaken of by
the guests 28 in number, and all had a delightful time. (Again names of all those present were listed, including his father.) The rain
which had spoiled the roads prevented others from attending the Fairview birthday party.
