70. Daniel4 VAN GUNDY (David Sr3, Peter Sr2, Male1) was born in Lancaster Co, PA March 11, 1797. Daniel died December 16, 1845 in Circleville, Harrison Twp, Pickaway Co, OH, at 48 years of age. His body was interred in Harrison Twp Cem, Pickaway Co, OH.

He married Anna Maria\Mary HOOK in Pickaway Co, OH, February 12, 1822. Anna was born in Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH October 29, 1799. Anna died September 11, 1848 in Piatt Co, IL, at 48 years of age. Her body was interred in Old Monticello Cem, Monticello, Piatt Co, IL. At 23 years of age Anna became the mother of William VAN GUNDY in OH, July 1823. At 24 years of age Anna became the mother of Melissa VAN GUNDY in OH, August 1824. At 26 years of age Anna became the mother of Charles Wesley VAN GUNDY in Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH, June 16, 1826. At 28 years of age Anna became the mother of William VAN GUNDY in OH, January 13, 1828. At 30 years of age Anna became the mother of Hiram VAN GUNDY in OH, December 6, 1829. At 34 years of age Anna became the mother of Amelia VAN GUNDY in OH, December 3, 1833. At 36 years of age Anna became the mother of Mary Ann VAN GUNDY in OH, February 25, 1836. At 39 years of age Anna became the mother of Daniel Felix VAN GUNDY in OH, July 26, 1839. At 42 years of age Anna became the mother of George W VAN GUNDY in OH, January 17, 1842. At 45 years of age Anna became the mother of Joseph T VAN GUNDY in OH, May 28, 1845.

At 26 years of age Daniel became the father of William VAN GUNDY in OH, July 1823. At 27 years of age Daniel became the father of Melissa VAN GUNDY in OH, August 1824. At 29 years of age Daniel became the father of Charles Wesley VAN GUNDY in Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH, June 16, 1826. At 30 years of age Daniel became the father of William VAN GUNDY in OH, January 13, 1828. At 32 years of age Daniel became the father of Hiram VAN GUNDY in OH, December 6, 1829. At 36 years of age Daniel became the father of Amelia VAN GUNDY in OH, December 3, 1833. At 38 years of age Daniel became the father of Mary Ann VAN GUNDY in OH, February 25, 1836. At 42 years of age Daniel became the father of Daniel Felix VAN GUNDY in OH, July 26, 1839. At 44 years of age Daniel became the father of George W VAN GUNDY in OH, January 17, 1842. At 48 years of age Daniel became the father of Joseph T VAN GUNDY in OH, May 28, 1845. Residences; 1830 Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH, was his address at census time. His household consisted of 3 males under 5, himself at 30-40, and 1 female 20-30. In the same township were sister-in-law, Hannah, and brothers, John, and Peter. 1840 Harrison Twp, Pickaway Co, OH. In the census, both he and his wife were 40-50 and had living with them: 1 male under 5, 2 males 10-15, 1male 15-20, 1 female under 5 and another 5-10. Several Whisler households were neighbors.

Daniel VAN GUNDY and Anna Maria\Mary HOOK had the following children:

child 220 ii. Melissa VAN GUNDY was born in OH August 1824. Melissa died August 1829 at 5 years of age.

child + 222 iv. William VAN GUNDY was born January 13, 1828.

child + 223 v. Hiram VAN GUNDY was born December 6, 1829.

child 224 vi. Amelia VAN GUNDY was born in OH December 3, 1833. Amelia died 1901 in Morehead, IA, at 67 years of age. She married John Neal in Piatt Co, IL, by Rev John Bratenham, July 10, 1851. John died 1877. John was probably the brother of Rachel, wife of Charles Wesley Van Gundy, i.e, brother and sister married brother and sister. Amelia and John had 2 sons.

child 225 vii. Mary Ann VAN GUNDY was born in OH February 25, 1836. She married twice. She married George Bender. She married John Painter May 9, 1854. After the death of her mother she lived with neighbors, James and Sarah Huston. She had 4 children by Mr Painter.

child 226 viii. Daniel Felix VAN GUNDY was born in OH July 26, 1839. Daniel died 1863 at 23 years of age. Daniel remained with brother, Charles, upon the death of their mother. He served with the Union forces in the Civil War.

child 227 ix. George W VAN GUNDY was born in OH January 17, 1842. George died March 16, 1863 in Young's Point, Miss, at 21 years of age. He resides in Macon Co, IL. He was a farmer and may have married before going to war where he served with Union forces. Residences & events in his life: 1850 Scott Co, IL. Following the death of his mother, George was sent to live with his uncle, David Van Gundy, Jr, and was listed in the census there. Hickory Point, Macon Co, IL. He was listed as eligible for 1st Class Voluntary Army while living in this county. Apparently he had moved east with his cousins, David's children. 8/16/1862 He enlisted as a Pvt in Co E 116th Regt ILL Vol, from Macon Co. 1866 Mt Zion, Macon Co, IL. Even thought he had been dead for three years, he still owned personal property in the county for which taxes were due. Also listed was a Mrs Van Gundy in Illini Twp who had left the county, perhaps his wife.
