26. Jacob Sr⁴ VAN GUNDY (Christian Sr³, Peter Sr², Male¹) was born in PA April 20, 1770. Jacob died October 29, 1854 in Ross Co, OH, at 84 years of age.

He married Catherine CONNER in Northumberland Co, PA, about 1800. Catherine was born in Northumberland Co, PA September 25, 1780. Catherine died March 7, 1856 in Ross Co, OH, at 75 years of age. Catherine became the mother of John VAN GUNDY about 1801. At 23 years of age Catherine became the mother of Jacob Jr VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, January 7, 1804. At 24 years of age Catherine became the mother of Isaac VAN GUNDY March 6, 1805. At 26 years of age Catherine became the mother of Mary VAN GUNDY December 31, 1806. At 28 years of age Catherine became the mother of Ann VAN GUNDY October 4, 1808. At 29 years of age Catherine became the mother of Catherine VAN GUNDY June 5, 1810. At 30 years of age Catherine became the mother of Elizabeth VAN GUNDY March 2, 1811. At 34 years of age Catherine became the mother of Abraham VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, May 1, 1815. At 36 years of age Catherine became the mother of Henry VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, 1817. At 39 years of age Catherine became the mother of Hester VAN GUNDY July 7, 1820. At 41 years of age Catherine became the mother of David Van Gundy December 22, 1821. Catherine and Isaac were brother and sister who married brother and sister.

Jacob became the father of John VAN GUNDY about 1801. At 33 years of age Jacob became the father of Jacob Jr VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, January 7, 1804. At 34 years of age Jacob became the father of Isaac VAN GUNDY March 6, 1805. At 36 years of age Jacob became the father of Mary VAN GUNDY December 31, 1806. At 38 years of age Jacob became the father of Ann VAN GUNDY October 4, 1808. At 40 years of age Jacob became the father of Catherine VAN GUNDY June 5, 1810. At 40 years of age Jacob became the father of Elizabeth VAN GUNDY March 2, 1811. At 45 years of age Jacob became the father of Abraham VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, May 1, 1815. At 47 years of age Jacob became the father of Henry VAN GUNDY in Ross Co, OH, 1817. At 50 years of age Jacob became the father of Hester VAN GUNDY July 7, 1820. At 51 years of age Jacob became the father of David Van Gundy December 22, 1821. Residences: E Buffalo Twp, Northumberland Co, PA 1798 Green Twp, Ross Co, OH. After selling out in PA, he moved west. However, the Pioneers of First Families of Ohio recorded his arrival in this county as 1802. 1800 Same address. He, John, and Samuel are all living in the same area. Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH. There were a string of newspaper notices concerning letters left at the local Post Office, Jacob Gunde/Gundy among them on these dates: 10/1/1807 1/4/1808 7/10/1809

Jacob Sr VAN GUNDY and Catherine CONNER had the following children:

111 i. Susan⁵ VAN GUNDY. Susan died in early years.

112 ii. John VAN GUNDY was born about 1801. John died in IL, possibly. He married twice. He married Mary Margaret "Polly" Sidenbender Pixler in Ross Co, OH, January 16, 1826. Mary was born 1808/9. Mary died February 16, 1851 in Fountain Co, OH, at 41 years of age. She was John's 2nd wife and this was her second marriage as well. She was probably a sister to John Sidenbender who married Ann Van Gundy...i.e. brother and sister married brother and sister.

He married Caroline WADE in Carroll Co, IN, April 13, 1851. Caroline was born about 1812. John had 11 children by his first wife and possibly 4 more by the second. Descendants said he and Caroline lived in Bond Co, IL, for awhile even though there are no records to verify that.

+ 113 iii. Jacob Jr VAN GUNDY was born January 7, 1804.

114 iv. Isaac VAN GUNDY was born March 6, 1805. Isaac died August 3, 1871 at 66 years of age. He married Sarah Ann O'CONNER in Fairfield Co, OH, July 10, 1837. Sarah was born September 25, 1780. Sarah died March 7, 1856 at 75 years of age. He and Sarah had 7 children. He served from 6/4/1846 to 6/1847 with the rank of Pvt in the Mexican War with Co I 2nd Rgmt, Ohio State Militia, Chilicothe, OH. There is an interesting story told in the 1883 History of Fairfield Co, OH, which may not apply to this man but since he married there and is the only one remotely associated with the county, it is added here. This story was told by Henry Leonard, of Liberty Twp: "More than sixty years ago Father Gundy, of that township, contracted forty head of fat hogs to Mr. Buckingham, of Zanesville, for one dollar and fifty cents per hundred, net weight, which, according to the custom of the day, was to be found by deducting one-fifth of the gross. Gundy drove his hogs to Zanesville, a distance of forty miles, but Buckingham would not take them, saying that the market price was only one dollar and twenty-five cents. Gundy declined to sell his pork at any such figure, and turning away, walked back to his home in Liberty township, leaving the hogs to care for themselves. Within three weeks every hog of the forty was back on the Gundy farm. Almost the entire distance traveled was a wilderness. Gundy afterwards got his price, one dollar and fifty cents, at Chillicothe."

115 v. Mary VAN GUNDY was born December 31, 1806. Mary died March 23, 1888 at 81 years of age. She married Jacob FORTNER in Ross Co, OH, September 3, 1832. Jacob was born December 1808. Jacob died March 4, 1887 at 78 years of age.

116 vi. Ann VAN GUNDY was born October 4, 1808. Ann died February 18, 1898 in Rockhold, Mercer Co, OH, at 89 years of age. She married Joseph SIDENBENDER June 21, 1827. Joseph was born 1808. Joseph died November 25, 1880 at 72 years of age.

117 vii. Catherine VAN GUNDY was born June 5, 1810. Catherine died May 24, 1878 at 67 years of age. She married Daniel COUGILL in Ross Co, OH, February 5, 1833. Daniel was born January 3, 1809. Daniel died June 13, 1890 at 81 years of age. He resides in Kirksville, MO.

118 viii. Elizabeth VAN GUNDY was born March 2, 1811. Elizabeth died April 20, 1881 at 70 years of age. She married Ezekiel VANDEMARK March 3, 1841.

119 ix. Abraham VAN GUNDY was born in Ross Co, OH May 1, 1815. Abraham died July 1, 1897 in Mercer Co, OH, at 82 years of age. He married twice. He married Maria BAUM October 9, 1842. Maria died August 1, 1847. He married Elizabeth EXLINE in Mercer Co, OH, August 16, 1849. Elizabeth was born in Friends Cove, Bedford Co, PA March 1, 1828. Elizabeth died July 30, 1895 at 67 years of age.

120 x. Henry VAN GUNDY was born in Ross Co, OH 1817. Henry died November 23, 1865 at 48 years of age. He married Mary RAYBURN October 10, 1841. Mary died March 2, 1857.

121 xi. Hester VAN GUNDY was born July 7, 1820. Hester died June 26, 1910 in Clarksville, IA, at 89 years of age. She married John HICKLE in OH, October 14, 1840. John was born August 24, 1812. John died June 26, 1894 at 81 years of age. He resides in Clarksville, IA.

122 xii. David Van Gundy was born December 22, 1821. He married Sarah Ann Burke December 24, 1848. This son is not included in most lists of this family.
