13. Jacob4 VAN GUNDY (Capt Joseph Sr *3 Van Gundy, David2 VAN GUNDY, Male1) was born in
Stumpstown, Lancaster Co, PA October 13, 1765. Jacob died September 24, 1845 in Vermilion Co, IL, at 79 years of age.
His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL.
He married twice. He married Katherine Maria Maury in Lancaster Co, PA, about 1784. Katherine was
born November 10, 1762. Katherine died September 20, 1828 in Harrisburg, OH, at 65 years of age. Her body was interred in
Gundy Cemetery, Harrisburg, OH. At 22 years of age Katherine became the mother of Catherine VAN GUNDY in Jonestown, Lebanon Co,
PA, February 4, 1785. He married Mary (Sutler) 1788. Mary was born November 10, 1762. Mary
died September 20, 1828 in Franklin Co, OH, at 65 years of age. Her body was interred in Old Gundy Cem, Franklin Co, OH, near
Harrisburg. Mary became the mother of Matty VAN GUNDY about 1789. At 27 years of age Mary became the mother of
Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY September 18, 1790. At 29 years of age Mary became the mother of Maria VAN GUNDY in PA, August 5,
1792. At 33 years of age Mary became the mother of Joseph VAN GUNDY in PA, August 20, 1796. At 36 years of age Mary
became the mother of Jacob VAN GUNDY in PA, December 15, 1798. At 38 years of age Mary became the mother of Thomas VAN
GUNDY August 29, 1801. At 40 years of age Mary became the mother of William VAN GUNDY July 16, 1803. At 42 years of age
Mary became the mother of Anna VAN GUNDY April 10, 1805. At 43 years of age Mary became the mother of Elizabeth
"Betty" VAN GUNDY 1806.
At 19 years of age Jacob became the father of Catherine VAN GUNDY in Jonestown, Lebanon Co, PA, February 4, 1785. Jacob
became the father of Matty VAN GUNDY about 1789. At 24 years of age Jacob became the father of Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY
September 18, 1790. At 26 years of age Jacob became the father of Maria VAN GUNDY in PA, August 5, 1792. At 30 years of age
Jacob became the father of Joseph VAN GUNDY in PA, August 20, 1796. At 33 years of age Jacob became the father of
Jacob VAN GUNDY in PA, December 15, 1798. At 35 years of age Jacob became the father of Thomas VAN GUNDY August 29, 1801.
At 37 years of age Jacob became the father of William VAN GUNDY July 16, 1803. At 39 years of age Jacob became the father
of Anna VAN GUNDY April 10, 1805. At 40 years of age Jacob became the father of Elizabeth "Betty" VAN GUNDY 1806.
Jacob's branch of the family dropped the Van from the surname and are known only as Gundy. For purposes of identification here, they will
stay Van Gundy. Residences & events in Jacob's life: 4-25-1779 Lebanon, PA. One story tells that Jacob ran away to Lebanon where he
joined the army at age 13 to fight the American Revolution. He served under Sebastian Wolf and Quartermaster Gen Robert Patton. He was on
the march to North River, New Winsor, Newburg, Fishkill, Monford, all in New York. Occasionally his job was teamster, hauling provisions
from Morristown, NJ, to the troops in NY. Family tales are that Jacob crawled through enemy lines to supply Washington's men at Valley
Forge. 12/1780 He was discharged from service. 1781 He reinlisted and served another 30 days under Capt Wentilwaver (or Wendel
Weaver), and Col Carpenter or Zimmerman, being discharged at Crooked Billet. 1786 Johnstown, Lebanon Co, PA, was his residence when a
daughter was born and also the location of their church. Dauphin Co, PA 1805 Ross Co, OH, was his address when his oldest daughter
married there. 1814 Pleasant Twp, Franklin Co, OH. The family moved to a farm SW of Columbus. It was here his wife died and was buried
along with some of their children and grandchildren. 1822 & 1828 He was still in the same county when 3 of his children married there.
While he performed weddings himself as Justice of the Peace, he never married his children. 1830 Myersville, Newell Twp, Vermilion Co,
IL. His family was among the first settlers of the area. 10/3/1832 Vermilion Co, IL, was still his residence when he was allowed a pension
on his service record. He received the pension with the help of sister, Catherine, who signed a deposition verifying his service. 1834
Danville, Vermilion Co, IL.

Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY was born September 18, 1790. Mary died April 3, 1865 in Ross Co, OH, at 74 years of age.
Her body was interred in Gundy Cemetery, Harrisburg, OH. She married Morris Yates in Ross Co, OH,
February 21, 1809. Morris was born December 7, 1784. Morris died November 9, 1836 in Ross Co, OH, at 51 years of age.
His body was interred in Gundy Cemetery, Harrisburg, OH. Morris was a soldier in the War of 1812.

Maria VAN GUNDY was born in PA August 5, 1792. Maria died December 23, 1839 in Momence, Kankakee Co, IL, at
47 years of age. She married William Nichols in Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH, April 4, 1811. William was
born in VA April 7, 1788. William died November 11, 1874 in Momence, Kankakee Co, IL, at 86 years of age. Residences & events: OH
William served in the War of 1812. 1815 Columbus, OH. He was listed as a tavern owner on tax rolls. 1827 Vigo Co, IN 1836
Vermilion Co, IL Spring 1837 Momence Twp, Will Co, IL, where he received government land. He was also the first justice of the peace
there. Following Maria's death, he remarried a widow named Margaret Smith Grimes, and raised his granddaughter, Martha Nichols, William's
daughter. Maria and William had 12 children.

August 1822. Thomas was born 1802. Thomas died 1847 in Ross Co, OH, at 45 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy
Cemetery, Harrisburg, OH.

OH, by John Tipton, November 20, 1828.

1868 in Crawford Station, Scotland Co, MO, at 83 years of age. She married John Kight in Chillicothe, Ross
Co, OH, by Wm Robinson, May 14, 1805. John was born in MD June 19, 1784. John died April 30, 1872 in Scotland Co, MO, at 87
years of age. Catherine and John had 9 children.
