79. Joseph⁵ VAN GUNDY (Jacob⁴, Capt Joseph Sr *³ Van Gundy, David² VAN GUNDY, Male¹) was born in PA August 20, 1796. Joseph died July 9, 1864 at 67 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL.

He married Sally Davison in Pickaway Co, OH, October 20, 1821. Sally was born in KY May 17, 1803. Sally died April 24, 1857 in Vermilion Co, IL, at 53 years of age. Her body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL. At 18 years of age Sally became the mother of Elizabeth VAN GUNDY April 13, 1822. At 20 years of age Sally became the mother of James VAN GUNDY February 27, 1824. At 24 years of age Sally became the mother of Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY November 4, 1827. At 26 years of age Sally became the mother of Andrew VAN GUNDY in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL, November 20, 1829. At 28 years of age Sally became the mother of Thomas VAN GUNDY in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL, October 6, 1831. At 30 years of age Sally became the mother of Susannah VAN GUNDY June 6, 1833. At 32 years of age Sally became the mother of Mariah VAN GUNDY in IL, October 29, 1835. At 34 years of age Sally became the mother of Joseph C VAN GUNDY February 15, 1838. At 37 years of age Sally became the mother of Sarah Jane "Sally" VAN GUNDY in IL, August 14, 1840. At 40 years of age Sally became the mother of Francis Marion VAN GUNDY May 17, 1843. At 43 years of age Sally became the mother of Catherine VAN GUNDY March 15, 1847.

At 25 years of age Joseph became the father of Elizabeth VAN GUNDY April 13, 1822. At 27 years of age Joseph became the father of James VAN GUNDY February 27, 1824. At 31 years of age Joseph became the father of Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY November 4, 1827. At 33 years of age Joseph became the father of Andrew VAN GUNDY in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL, November 20, 1829. At 35 years of age Joseph became the father of Thomas VAN GUNDY in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL, October 6, 1831. At 36 years of age Joseph became the father of Susannah VAN GUNDY June 6, 1833. At 39 years of age Joseph became the father of Mariah VAN GUNDY in IL, October 29, 1835. At 41 years of age Joseph became the father of Joseph C VAN GUNDY February 15, 1838. At 43 years of age Joseph became the father of Sarah Jane "Sally" VAN GUNDY in IL, August 14, 1840. At 46 years of age Joseph became the father of Francis Marion VAN GUNDY May 17, 1843. At 50 years of age Joseph became the father of Catherine VAN GUNDY March 15, 1847. Residences: Lancaster Co, PA Pleasant Twp, Columbus, OH 1828 Myersville, Newell twp, Vermilion Co, IL. Joseph selected land on the North Fork of the Vermilion river, built a cabin on the land he entered and went back to his home in OH. The next year, the family spent the winter in or near Eugene, IN, Mid 1829 Myersville. The family arrived at their new home. Among the group were several of his relatives as well as Sally's parents. Some time later a family returning to OH from the west where they had lost everything, were advised to go to Danville and ask Joe Gundy to help them. Joe and Sally took them into their home and when their little girl became ill and died, Sally, remembering her own daughter left behind in IN, promised she would tend the grave as though it was her own. This she did and the Davison Cemetery was begun. Years later it became known as the Gundy Cemetery.

Joseph VAN GUNDY and Sally Davison had the following children:

237 i. Elizabeth⁶ VAN GUNDY was born April 13, 1822. She married Isaac Christman.

238 ii. James VAN GUNDY was born February 27, 1824. James died February 22, 1840 at 15 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL.

239 iii. Mary "Polly" VAN GUNDY was born November 4, 1827. Mary died June 1, 1829 in IN, at 1 year of age. Her body was interred in IN.

240 iv. Andrew VAN GUNDY was born in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL November 20, 1829. Andrew died 1906 at 76 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL. Andrew was interested in public affairs and later became a member of the legislature in 1875.

241 v. Thomas VAN GUNDY was born in Myersville, Vermilion Co, IL October 6, 1831. Thomas died April 19, 1855 at 23 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL.

242 vi. Susannah VAN GUNDY was born June 6, 1833. She married Male Hinton.

243 vii. Mariah VAN GUNDY was born in IL October 29, 1835. Mariah died August 12, 1916 in IL, at 80 years of age. She married John Davidson September 26, 1858. John was born in IL February 12, 1837. John died March 13, 1913 in IL, at 76 years of age.

244 viii. Joseph C VAN GUNDY was born February 15, 1838. He married Anna (Van Gundy). Joseph was a farmer and trader.

245 ix. Sarah Jane "Sally" VAN GUNDY was born in IL August 14, 1840. Sarah died August 18, 1933 at 93 years of age. She married twice. She married John Davison. She married William Harrison Dayton February 13, 1874. William was born in NY June 6, 1840. William died October 24, 1917 in IL, at 77 years of age.

246 x. Francis Marion VAN GUNDY was born May 17, 1843. Francis died February 11, 1932 at 88 years of age. His body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL. He married Mary E Smith October 14, 1875. Mary was born September 30, 1854. Mary died July 14, 1941 at 86 years of age. Her body was interred in Gundy Cem, Myersville/Bismark, Vermilion Co, IL.

247 xi. Catherine VAN GUNDY was born March 15, 1847. She married Milton E Lee.
