His mother recorded their marriage date as October 23, 1939. Witnessess to the marriage were JD's sister, Ella, and her husband, Harry Parkison. That night they returned to the home of JD's parents where they slept among the siblings.
JD and Dorothy loved to play bridge and were often involved in the various clubs and tournaments around town. On 10/1989 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the First Baptist Church where they received an enormous crowd of friends and relatives.
