His obituary states: "Mr. Powell, a pioneer in the development of the Jersey cattle breed in Moultrie County.....was a past president of the county's Jersey Cattle Club and was known for his participation in state and county fair livestock shows. He was also active in the events of the Farmers Institute.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Sullivan."
He lived at Sullivan all of his life. (The reunion roster of 1943 listed him at Ashmore, IL.)
In the 1900 census he was living with the family of cousin, Ansel Purvis Powell.
5/16/1910 Sullivan Twp, Moultrie Co, IL was where the census taker found the family. Jesse was 37 years old, Ruth was 29 , and daughter Fern was 5. Jesse's occupation was general farmer. They lived just down the road from Robert and Edna Van Gundy.
He had been in the hospital about 4 days when he died.
His funeral was in the McMullin Funeral Home with Rev Donald Frantz
officiating. Hubert Powell was among the pallbearers.
