They were the only Floyds in the county but there was a Jacob Daily family and in the same township were other Daily relatives...the family of Daniel Crum and several McGuires.
1856 Coles Co, IL. The family arrived that year according to family history recorded in the county history book. In the party were 2 of Emanuel's aunts and their families, both Crums, and the Dailys.
7/27/1860 S Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL, near Mattoon. Listed as Manal Floid in the census, he was a 35 year old farmer without any property. Mary was 28 and their chldren were John, 11, Marion, 9, James, 6, and Emery, 1. They lived between Mary's mother and step-father, Collison Porter, and Mary's brother, James and Rachel Daily.
8/16/1870 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. That year the census taker recorded Emanuel at age 44, a farmer with property worth $1000/200. Living with him was Susan, 65, probably his mother, housekeeper. Where was Polly? The children were John, 18, Marion, 17, James, 14, Emery, 10, and Mary , 5. Two doors down was Collison Porter.
1880 Sargeant, Douglas Co, IL. When and why the family moved is unknown but that's where the census taker found them that year. He was a 55 year old farmer, wife, Mary was 47 and they had children, Emery, 20; Mary, 16; Eva, 9; and William 4.
1900 Coles Co, IL. By that census, as a 74 year old widower floyuliving with the family of brother-in-law, Josiah Daily as a boarder.
He was listed in the 1900 census with brother-in-law, Josiah & Margaret Daily, as a boarder.
