6/14/1900 Humboldt Twp, Coles Co, IL. At census time Joseph was 31, Nancy, 25, married 2 years with 2 children, both surviving: Mary 1, and Ralph, 5 months. Living with them were Raymond Wordley/Medley, 11, and George S Sharks, 35, both servants, George on the farm, Raymond apparently around the house as he was in school. Next door was William Hoots and a Mendenhall on the other side.
5/20/1910 Same place. The census listed Joseph at age 41, married 2 years to second wife Rosa, 31, who had birthed 1 child who was still surviving. In the household were sons Maria (?), 12, Ralph, 10, Howard, 8, Joseph, 6, and 2 month old daughter, listed only as Baby. Two hired men were also counted there, 61 year old David Woods and 19 year old Otto Corner (?). Joseph was a general farmer.
1918 Humboldt, N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. According to the county farmer listing he was a big farmer, owning 260 acres and being tenant farmer of 270 acres in S7 owned by the Houts Estate. Also listed were wife Rose and all 7 children. He had been a county resident since 1882.
1/21/1920 Same place. Joseph was listed in the census at age 50, Rose was 41. The family included Ralph, 20, Howard, 18, Joseph, 16, Vesta, 10, Hildred, 6, and Nellie M, 4 yrs 3 mo. Joseph was a general farmer.
4/18/1930 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. That year the census said Joe was 60, had married Rose at age 37. Rose was 51 and married at age 30. Children still at home were Ralph, 30, Vesta, 20, Hildred, 16, and Nellie M, 14. Joe was a grain farmer.
