6/18/1900 Grant Twp, Union Co, IA. Again listed as James S in the census, he and Mary were both 42 years old, married 22 years with 8 children, all living. In the house were Frank M, 16, Fred M, 14, harry C, 11, Clinton, 8, Ottis, 5, and Wayn, 4 months. James was still farming. Son Pernie's family lived next door.
5/6/1910 Union Twp, Boone Co, IA. It is uncertain if the family had moved or if county lines had shifted. At any rate, the census recorded James and Mary at 52 years of age, married 32 years with 8 children, all surviving. In the house were Clinton, 18, Otis, 15, and Merrill, 10, as well as James' 80 year old divorced father. James was employed as a general farmer.
