7/13/1850 New Castle, Henry Co, IN. The census said Simon T was 31 years old, a clerk, with property worth $900. Wife Elizabeth was 40. Living with them were children, Henry L, 7, and Orlistus, 5. There was also a Jacob Thornburghe, 10, and Esther C Powell, 21 there.
From Probate court records:
"Received 1/16/1856 from Simon T Powell forty three dollars and forty one cents in full of the amount due the heirs of James Fort deceased on final settlement of his estate."
1860 Simon's location cannot be found, he's not listed in any any census.
7/13/1870 Henry Twp, Henry Co, IN. That year the census said Simon was 48, Elizabeth was 63. They lived alone. Simon's property had increased immensely, to $70,000/17,100, and he was still farming. Next door lived son Henry L.
6/15/1880 New Castle, Henry Co, IN. Simon may not have moved at all but rather townships shifted, then shifted back. At that time Simon was a banker farmer which probably explains his vast empire in 1870. Wife Elizabeth was 72 and living with them was 28 year old Anna Large, domestic servant.
