In nearly every census record Isaac and all his sons' names were spelled Powel.
Residences & events:
1830 West Dist. Fleming Co, KY. The census taker captured the family there and recorded Isaac at age 20-30 with only 1 male under 5 and his wife, also 20-30 years old.
1850 Centre Twp, Hendricks Co, IN. Was it this Isaac and Matilda in the census there? If so, Isaac was a farmer at age 45, wife Matilda was 43. Their children were Charles W, 19, William B, 14, Simpson, 11, Mary Jane, 9, Benjamin F, 7, Christopher C, 5, and Nancy E, 2.
7/12/1860 Salt River Twp, Audrain Co, MO. The exact date of the westward move is unknown but that is where the census taker found them. That year Isaac was 56, a farmer from "Kintucky" and Matilda was 52. Children still at home were Simpson, 21, Benjamin F, 15, CC, 12, NE, 10, and Caroline, 7. Also living with them was a day laborer, NB Jenny, 29.
7/11/1870 Rose Twp, Shelby Co, IL. Apparently the family did not like the west and moved back nearer other family. At census time Isaac was a 66 year old farmer with property valued at $4500/321. His wife's name then was Mary, 62, and they had 3 children living with them, Nancy, 19, Cary, 15, and Edward, 14, all born in KY. Next door was B C Powell, 25. (Was that son Benjamin or the one that married Ellen Middlesworth?)
Daughter Caroline told the 1930 census taker that borh her parents were born in PA.
His funeral notice in the newspaper stated "The funeral of Isaac Powell is to take place from the residence of B.F. Powell today (Tuesday) at 2:30 P.M. The friends and family are respectfully invited to attend."
