Notes for Benjamin HASKELL


OH During his early manhood, he employed himself by rafting, hunting, and trapping along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.

1826 Scott Co, IL. He entered the land and constructed a homestead but did not give up the Ohio home until sometime later. He eventually owned some 300 acres in different parts of Illinois.

1840 Winchester, Scott Co, IL. At census time there were living in his household: 1 male under 5, 1 at 5-10, 1 was 10-15, Benjamin was 40-50, 1 female at 5-10, 1 at 10-15, 1 was 15-20 and Sally was 30-40.

10/17/1850 Scott Co, IL. The census that year recorded his name as Hoskell and said he was a 53 year old farmer with property valued at $1900. Wife Sarah was 49 and had more property than he did at $2200. Living with them were Milles children - Eliza, 20; George W, 17; and Julia A, 15; and Haskell children: Daniel, 10; Elizabeth J, 3; and John J H, 1.
