(Albert) was married Nov. 4, 1863, to Mary Gundy, a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Smith) Gundy ; her parents were natives of Pennsylvania, and emigrated to Ohio in 1819, settling in Harrison Co.; they had nine children, five now living; her mother died in October, 1876. Mrs. Pumphrey was born July 20, 1839, in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio.

1830 North Twp, Harrison Co, OH. At census time they lived in the same township as several sisters' families, i.e. Overholts, Nafziger. Recorded as Joseph Gundy the family included: 3 males under 5, 1 at 10-15, Joseph at 30-40, and 1 female age 20-30.
8/26/1850 Goshen Twp, Tuscarawas Co, OH. The census that year recorded him as a 51 year old farner with real estate worth $1100. He and Mary, 46, had 6 children: John, 23, Benjamin, 22, Henry, 20, Catherine, 18, Mary, 12, and Susan, 1. Also counted there was 20 year old Alex Bartholomew. The three older boys and Alex were laborers. The Houston family lived next door, on the other side were Hammels.
7/5/1860 Orange Twp, PO Sherrodsville, Carroll Co, OH. Joseph, 61, was still farming and had amassed property valued at $5000/1200. Wife Mary was 57, children in the house were Mary, 22, Sue, 11, and Mary, 7. Mary was probably a granddaughter. Both Joseph and Mary were born in MD. The family lived between son Benjamin and Henry Smith (Mary's brother?). Possibly a nephew, Perry Smith was just beyond Benjamin.
6/29/1870 Goshen Twp, PO New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas Co, OH. By age 71 at census time that year Joseh "Grundy" had increased his property valuation to $10,200/1100, a huge amount for the day. He was still farming, wife Mary was 62. Living with them was Mary A, 17.
6/22/1880 Goshen Twp, Tuscarawas Co, OH. At census time he was living with son Henry's family. He was still farming at age 81. Son Benjamin was 3 doors down the road.
