Notes for John C\R BRACKEN

Residences & events:

1870 Jonathan Creek Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. At census time John and Nancy had 2 children and her aged mother living with them. He was a farmer with property = $1600/500, next door was the William Bolin family, also Nancy's relatives.

8/13/1879 John and Nancy donated the ground surrounding the burial plot of Nancy's family for the "Bolin" Cemetery. The deed states:

"The grantors, John C. Bracken and Nancy Bracken, his wife, of the County of Moultrie and State of Illinois for and in consideration of One Dollars, in hand paid, convey and warrant to the Lineal Descendants of James and Nancy Bolin, and to Nancy Bolin of the County of Moultrie, State of Illinois the following described real estate to be used as a family burying ground only.....it contains one acre and sixteen square rods."

Some of the family, most of them Purvises, built a mausoleum in 1913. Six people were buried there when it began to leak and by 1969 all had been reinterred in Jonathan Creek cemetery.

1922 Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He attended the Powell family reunion, probably as a family friend and again in 1927 & 1928.

His death occurred on the day of the Powell family reunion which he always attended.
