David was known as a "rounder" with the ladies. Family said he was married at least four times. If Lena was really his daughter, he was only 18 when she was born and there is no marriage record for him in IL before 1895 to Fanny.
At one time, he was a grocer in Allenville, IL.

6/23/1900 Lowe Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. Was it this David Arthur, 22, living there that year as a farm hand with the family of William Mentzer? If so, he was listed as born in IN and single. Where were Fanny and at least 2 children?
5/3/1910 Dora Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. At census time, David N, 35, had been married 14 years to Fannie M, 34, who had birthed 7 children, only 5 of whom still survived. Children in the family were Lena V, 16 (daughter from a previous marriage?), Flossie M, 12, Lucinda, 10, David F, 7, and Aaron R, 1 yr 6 mo. David was a farm hand on a general farm, daughter, Lena was a servant for a private family.
9/12/1918 809 "Moltrie" (Moultire) Ave, Mattoon, Coles Co, IL was his address when he registered for the draft at age 45. He was self employed but doing what is blurry. Wife Fannie May, same address, was his next of kin. His physical attributes were described as medium height, medium build, with black eyes and dark hair.
1/20/1920 Lafayette Twp, Coles Co, IL. David N Arthur was the Operator of an Elevator Co, according to the census that year, and rented the home. He and Fannie N were 48 years old, children were Frankie, 17, Ralph, 11, Thelma, 5, and Freddie, 1 y 2 mo.
4/18/1930 Cedar Ave, Mattoon, Coles Co, IL. The census that year recorded both him and Fannie at 54 years of age with children: Ralph, 21 and his bride Irene, 19; Thelma, 15; Fred, 11; and daughter Creolene (sp?), 7. David was a laborer on a truck farm and owned their home which was valued at $4000, They did not have a radio.
He verified his birth date when he registered for the draft.
