Notes for Henry Thompson CRUM

Henry was a brother to Daniel Crum, husband of Mary Daily (i.e. brothers married sisters).

Residences & events:

8/8/1850 Vienna Twp, Scott Co, IN. The census taker found him there next door to his parents and recorded Henry T, 25, Martha Jane, 22, and they 2 small children, Josiah J, 2, and Mary Ann, 1. Henry was a wagonmaker, as were most of his brothers so they must have worked together. His real estate was worth $150.

6/28/1860 Same place. That year at census time Henry T was 35, Martha J was 32. Children in the family were Josiah J, 13, Mary A, 11, Amanda E, 9, Henry M, 5, Nancy J, 2 and Martha E, 1 month. Henry had switched occupations to farming, his property totaled $1000/450. His parents were 4 doors down the road.

8/13/1870 Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. Before the next census the family had moved west with the Crum, McGuire and Daily relatives. It seems to have been a good move as Henry, 44, had increased his property value to $3000/500. Martha was 42 and the family included: Henry, 14, Nancy, 11, Martha, 10, Almeda, 4, and William, 7 months. They lived between brothers Joel and brother David.

6/3/1880 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. That year at census time Henry was a 55 year old farmer, Martha was 52. They had 5 children: Ellen, 18; Almedia, 13; William, 10; Melvina, 6; and nephew Edwin Morgan, 10. Next door was the family of son Henry.

6/2/1900 Same place. By census time that year Henry T, 75, and Martha J, 72, lived alone except for widow A Wright, 60, servant. Next door neighbors were a young Wright family that may have been her son? Henry was still farming.
