9/24/1850 Coles Co, IL. He was living next door to brother Zachariah, according to the census, with property =$300 but no occupation. He and Thena were both 26 years old and had only baby John J at 6 months living with them.
7/2/1860 Morgan Twp, Coles Co, IL. Solomon, 35, was a farmer with property worth $2300/80. Wife Poll was 29 and the children were John J, 11, William A, 9, Elijah, 6, Hiram, 2, and Thomas, 5 months. Next door was the family of sister Fanny and David McAllister while brother Aaron lived in the same township.
The 1850 census taker recorded his age as 26, making his birth year 1824.
Local history recorded:
"He suffered all the hardships and privations of frontier life, but was known as a hard-working industrious and successful farmer, and at the time of his death was held in high esteem in the township in which he lived."
The 1883 Coles Co Delinquent Tax List says the heirs of Sol. Collins owed $4.50 for 5 acres in Section 27.
