1870 Curtisville, Morgan Twp, Coles Co, IL. The census taker recorded a large group living in his house. He was 41 year old farmer with $600 in personal property only, no real estate. Wife Mary was 33 and the children were: Richard, 14; John 8; Jacob, 3 and Jane, 1. Also living there were 2 hired hands, Alec Harp, 22 (who would marry George's niece, Lucinda Collins), & Joseph Nesbit, 35 (who had married George's niece, Sarah McAllister).
1880 Seven Hickory Twp, Coles Co, IL. In that census he was listed as a farmer, age 51. Mary was 42 and they had a large family: John Roy, 18; Jacob B, 12; dau, M J, 11; Effie D, 7; son W O, 4; and dau M M, 1. He told the census taker both parents were born in E VA.
