1880 Same place. At census time Mattie's family lived with Charlie's mother. Mattie was 26, Charlie, 25 and Kate was 11, having changed her last name to Sides too. There was no sign of David. Other children listed were Harry, 5; Hattie, 2; and Ethel, 1 mo. Charles was a laborer.
4/25/1910 Still there. The census that year recorded Charley at 58, Mattie at 57. They had been married 36 years and 6 of Mattie's 7 children were still living (David had died).
1/17/1920 Spruce St, Nokomis. The census taker found her and the second husband living alone there. Charles was 57, without occupation, and Mattie was 65 with IA recorded as her place of birth.
9/1927 820 N 19th St, Mattoon, IL. Martha applied for and received a Widow's Pension based on John's Civil War Service even though they had been divorced since 1870 and she had remarried. The application was filed under the name of Martha Arthur rather than Sides and with her daughter's address as her own. Witnesses to the application were: Mrs R J Bowser (daughter) & C H Douglas, Notary Public, of 700 Lafayette Ave, Mattoon.

In 1870 she was born in Illinois and in 1880 it was IA. Other discreptions occur in other census records, her age in 1920 was 65 but in 1930 she was only 64.
