Ambrose "owns 160 acres of land and is one who is respected and esteemed by all classes. He belongs to the Republican party, and cast his first vote for J K Polk. He and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church."

1852 Following Mary's death, Ambrose and the two children moved back in with his parents where he remained for several years.
1861 He enlisted in Co B, 33 Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry and was in the battles of Stone River, Chickamauga, and others.
