Van Gundy Family Tree

Notes for Maria Margaret VAN GUNDY

In 1830 Margaret was listed as head of the house at census time in Mifflin Twp, Franklin Co, OH. The household included: 1 male aged 10-15, 1 at 15-20, 2 were 20-30, 1 female at age 5-10, 1 at 10-15, and Margaret at 50-60. She lived between son Peter and daughter Catherine Windsor. Daughter Sarah and Henry Zinn were on the other side of Peter and 3 doors down beyond Catherine was son John with 3 Baughman families farther down. (The Baughman's were in-laws of both John and Mary.) Brother Jacob Gundy was in Pleasant Twp of the same county.

Her gravestone says she was 80 years old, making her birth year 1763.

Some say she died in December but her gravestone says September.

From Sue Phillips' Frederick Agler family:

Margaret is buried by her husband Frederick Agler in the Riverside Cemetery in Mifflin township. The inscription on her tombstone reads, 'In memory of Margaret, wife of Frederick Agler, Died September 10, 1843, age 80 years'. If the inscription on the tombstone is correct, then Margaret was born in 1763. In addition the following poem is engraved on the stone:

My loving friend oh do not weep
I am not dead, but am asleep
And here my body must remain
Till Christ shall bring me home again"

The inscription on her gravestone says:

My loving friends O do not weep
I am not dead but am asleep
And here my body must remain
Till Christ shall bring it forth again
