1820 Springfield Twp, Ross Co, OH, was where the census taker found Cornelius and family. Recorded in the household were 2 males under 10; Cornelius, 26-45; 1 female under 10 and 1 female, also 26-45. Five doors down the road were his parents.

1830 Vermilion Co, IL. Listed as Cornelius "Vangunda" in that census, his household included 1 male aged 5-10, 1 at 10-15, 2 were 15-20, 2 at 20-30, Cornelius was 50-40, 1 female at 5-10, 1 was age 10-15, 1 at 15-20, and 1 at 40-50. Two doors down were some of Sarah's Clayton relatives. He was the only Van Gundy in the county.

1840 Union Twp, Montgomery Co, IN. Having jumped back across the river, possibly to safer territory from Indians, they lived in the next door county from relatives in Fountain Co. Cornelius was recorded at 50-60 years old with a family consisting of 1 male under 5, 1 age 5-10, 2 females at 5-10, 1 at 10-15, 1 was 15-20, and 1 age 40-50. Where were the rest of the children?

1850 Where was the family that year at census time? On the move?

7/6/1860 Des Moines, Jasper Co, IA At age 70, the census listed him as a cooper wtih property worth $100/100. His family consisted of Sarah, 60, a domestic, Mahala, 23, and Francis M, 19. Brother John was in the same area.

7/16/1870 Buena Vista Twp, Jasper Co, IA. That year he was listed in the census as Conley Vangunda, 82, pauper, living in the county infirmary. Anna Vangunda, 80, was also living there. Wonder why the children didn't take them in?
