1840 Colerain Two, Ross Co, OH. At census time there were living in Jonathan's house: 1 male under 5, Jonathan was 20-30, 2 females under 5, and 1 at 20-30.
3/9/1850 Harrison Twp, Ross Co, OH. The census taker found his family living with his aged father and next door to brother Peter. Jonathan was 43 and a laborer with $150 in real estate. His family consisted of wife Mariah, 42 and children: Frances, 15; Salena, 13; Mary 10; Joseph 8; Samuel, 5; Nancy 3; and Mariah, 7/12.
6/29/1860 Colerain Twp, Ross Co, OH. That year the census recorded Jonathan at age 49 with the occupation of Mast(er) Carpenter. His property totaled $150/300. Living with him were Maria, 43, Francis, 25, Mary, 20, Joseph, 19, Samuel, 17, Nancy, 14, Maria, 11, Eliza, 7, and John, 5. Next door was the John Merryman family, probably Maria's brother.
7/25/1870 Same place. According to the census Jonathan had disposed of all real estate and was left with $500 in personal property and yet his occupation was "works on farm." He was 58 at the time, wife Maria was 54 and they still had a full house: Mary, 31, Eliza, 18, John, 14, Maria's 81 year old father, Francis Merryman, and 8 year old Franklin Russel. Next door was the family of Amanda Russel and next to her was Maria's brother, John. Perhaps Amana was Maria's sister? Francis Merryman had $700 in real estate but no occupation so it is possible that Jonathan worked his farm.
Some descendants say Jonathan was born 10/20/1805 but the date posted is calculated from cemetery records that say he was 62y, 4m, 11d.
