12/28/1850 Dist 21, Vermilion Co, IL. The census that year listed Isaac Chrisman, 26, a farmer with real estate worth $1750. Elizth was 27 and they had 3 small toddlers, Sarah J, 5, Susannah, 4, and Mary A, 3. There were others in the house as well: Mary Dixon, 18, Blandford Frances, 32, and Mary A Scoonover, 18, all without relationship or occupation unrecorded. Next door was the Henry Kite (Kight) family, relatives of the relatives.
6/18/1860 Liberty Twp, near Williamsport, Warren Co, IL. Before the next census the family had jumped across the river, probably to be nearer his relatives, as next door lived a Sarah Chrisman, 73, with the Abner Mitchell family. Isaac was 36, still farming and his estate had ballooned to $10,000/1000. Elizabeth was also 36 and the family had grown to include: Sarah J, 15, Susanna, 13, Mary A, 12, Eliza E, 9, Joseph, 7, Mariah C, 4, and Thomas F, 2. All the children were listed as born in IN but that is incorrect, according to the previous census.
7/28/1870 Same place. That census recorded Isaac as an enterprising farmer with property valued at $43,400/2000. He and Elizabeth were both 45 and children still in the house were Susan, 21, Ellen, 19, Joseph S, 17, Catherine, 14, and Lavina and Francis L, 10,
6/16/1880 Ross Twp, Vermilion Co, IL. Considering the estate in IN, it makes one wonder what brought them back home? Isaac "Chrisma," 60, was still farming and must have had considerable land as 4 farm laborers lived with the family: Elizabeth was also 60, and living with them were Sarah, 32, Joseph, 26, Franklin, 22, Lavina, 26, and the hired men, John Twins, 30, John Holmes, 15, Samuel McKunn, 25, and George McKunn, 22. All the children again were listed as born in IN.
6/1/1900 Maple St, Rossville, Vermilion Co, IL. By the next census Isaac, 77, was a widower with the occupation of landlord. The household had shrunk to only children: Jennie, 54, Joseph, 47, and Vina, 38.
4/21/1910 Utica St, Rossville. Not much had changed, except the name of the street, since the last census Apparently Isaac had retired as the census said he had his own income. All three children were still there without occupations and listed as Sarah J, 64, Joseph S, 54, and Lavina M, 41. Sounds like they lived the life of ease.
