Notes for Austin VAN GUNDY


Residences & events:

5-2-1864 Ross Co, OH. At age 18 he enlisted in the Civil War as a 100 day man with Co D 149th. He was among those taken prisoner on 7/9/1864 but it must have been a short stay as he was discharged shortly after on 8/30/1864.

He owned several acres of land in the county, some acquired from the government, possibly as payment for war service.

1880 Harrison Twp, Ross Co, OH. The census taker recorded Austin at age 36, Mary at 30. They had children: Eliza, 3, John 2, and Viola, 3/12. Austin was a farmer and next door was brother Wesley's family.
