9/12/1918 Charles registered for the draft as required, verifying his date of birth, address, and occupation. He listed wife Vara Edna as next of kin. The registrar recorded his physical attributes as short, medium build, with blue eyes and black hair.
1/3/1920 Same address. That year the census recorded a large farmily: CW, 41, Vara, 33, Lois, 11, George, 10, John, 8, Kenneth, 7, Margarette, 6, Harold, 4, Ray, 3, and Ethel, 1. Charles farmed a rented farm.
4/24/1930 Still there. The census taker listed Charles at 51, married at 28, to Vera, 43, married at 21. The family included: George, 20, John, 19, Kenneth, 17, Margaret, 16, Herald, 15, Ray, 13, Ethel, 11, Violet, 9, and Wesley, 5. Charles was a general farmer and the 4 older boys were farm laborers. They lived in a rented house so perhaps lived on the rented farm land.
