He was a farmer in Amherst Co but his farm became part of the new Nelson Co upon its organization.

"William Crisp, father of Mary, personally gave consent to her marriage. In 1829, Charles Purvis was paying taxes on 292 acrs of land in Nelson Co. On 24 Nov 1832, he sold 121 acres for $1,200 to Floyd S. Whitehead. This was part of a tract purchased by his father in 1769. Deed Book 7, pg. 414 Nelson Co, VA. By 1850 Mary had died and his real estate was valued at $2,000. Charles Wyatt and Rebecca (Becky) were living in his home and caring for him. He now owned 280 acres of land."

Military records of brother George say in 1832 one Charles Purvis, aged 66, was living in Nelson Co, KY, no relationship shown. That makes his birth year 1766 rather than the 1763 that some researchers say.
Charles' will was written 4/12/1850 and probated 10/24/1853.
