David is not included in most lists of this family but he had a close association with sister Hester's family, down to naming children after each other.

From Ross Co, OH probate records: David VanGundy owed $2.31 to the estate of John A Wheeland, Springfield, OH. At the sale Sept. 10, 1846. "Hen (?) VanGundy bgt Pongee hdkfs @ 14 cents & 2 woollen comforts 20 cents 4 calico parasols 31 cents"
7/16/1850 Kingston, Green Twp, Ross Co, OH. At census time David Van Gundy was listed as a 28 year old grocer with real estate worth $200. His family included wife Sarah A, 22, son Wesley, J, 1, as well as female B. Green, her daughter Almedianna, 2, and a Frances Beva, 14, relationship unknown.
6/21/1860 Butler Tw p, PO Leoni, Butler Co, IA. The census taker found the Van Gundy family living just down the road from David's sister Hester and John Hickle. David was a 38 year old farmer with property valued at $1000/250. Wife Sarah A was 31, their children were Wesley J, 10, Almeda, 8, Hester A, 5, and Sarah E, 2. Wm Burke, 24, probably Sarah's brother, also lived there as a farm laborer, and down the road was the James Burke family.
7/2/1870 Same Twp, PO Butler Center. They still lived in the vicinity of Hester's family and farming seems to have been profitable for him. He was 48 with property worth $6330/2230. Sarah, 41, kept house for the large family of 7 children: Almeda J, 18, Esther A, 14, Elizabeth, 12, Emma J, 8, Laura R, 6, Minnie, 4, and David E, 10 months. James Burke was still down the road as was Hester's relative, Reason Hickle.
