Van Gundy Family Tree

Notes for James LISLE

Apparently he could not write as he signed various documents with a mark.

He was a veteran of the war of 1812, serving as Private of 2nd Div, 4th Brigade. Both he and Mary were said to be faithful members of the Lutheran Church.

His birth date is 3/6/1788 in some family listings but from calculations on the gravestone, it was as posted.

According to a county history, he drowned while crossing a river during the winter. He died without a will and real estate passed by statue of descent to children Robert, William, John G, Alexander and Abigail Moore subject to dower interest of Mary, his widow. William bought out the interests of Robert and John so the family farm was divided thus:

1/3 to widow Mary for her dower
1/5 to Michael Moore and Abbie
3/5 to William
1/5 to Alexander for whom William was appointed guardian.

Later William ended up with the whole farm when he also bought out the Moores and Alexander.

He lived there nearly all his life.
