The census taker found David, 21, and brother, John, 15, living with the Robert and Elizabeth Hamilton family along with aunt Minda Price and her 2 sons, probably because uncle John's family was growing. Both David and John were day laborers. Grandmother Whitley lived 2 doors down with her children as other neighbors.
8/11/1870 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. At census time that he was 29 and a farmer with property worth $2500/600. Wife Elizabeth was Wife Elizabeth was 23 and their children were William, 4, James 2, and Amelia, 1 month was marked out as if deceased. Brother, John, 26, was living with them and just down the road were Dailys, Whitleys and Prices.
6/8/1880 Same place. That year at census time David, 38, had a large family consisting of: wife Elizabeth, 32, William, 14, James, 12, Sarah, 10, Mary, 8, Luvinia, 6, and Ora, 3. Brother John, 36, was still there. David and John were both farmers.
Elizabeth was listed as a widow in the 1900 census.
