"Grandmother Benton died at Father's house at the age of eighty-five. Her maiden name was Womack. She and her husband and children lived in South Carolina in time of the Revolutionary War. After the war, they started to move to Kentucky, and, in crossing a river, her husband and all the children were drowned except a boy, Wellman, and a girl, Elizabeth. She herself, was washed down the river and caught some bushes until she was rescued. After she got to Kentucky, she later married David Benton."
