Notes for John STUBBLEFIELD


John and Elizabeth had 9 children.

Residences & events:

1748 Amelia, Prince Edward Co., VA Shortly after marrying Elizabeth they moved.

2/14/1753 Halifax Co, VA. He entered 400 acres on ToecloLd Creek and 2 tracts of 400 acres each on Turkeyeock Creek of IrMn River.

4/18/1754 He entered 400 acres on the south side of Johnson's Creek.

9/1755 John was sued for trespass by Robert Stubblefield (father or cousin?) and George Walton, but was not a resident of the county.

5/1758 Orange Co, NC. John sued Isaiah Watkins, details unknown.

8/23/1762 He received a grant for 452 acres on Hogans Creek adjoining Robert Stubblefield.

1764 Comwall Parish, Lunenburg Co, VA. He lived there with sons John and George.

Fall, 1771 Guilford Co, NC. " A poor man with a large family" lived on the Dan River when Lewis Collier, attorney for Francis and James Park Farley, claimed that he and son John Jr. and others were living on land belonging to the Farleys. Colloer seized corn, tobacco, meat and 3 years rent from Stubblefield and sued him on 2/11/1773.

John said,while poaching on Saura land in NC, that he was a poor man with a large family.

8/15/1775 John apparently found some money somewhere as he bought 164 acres on the northside of Hogans Creek in Guilford and Orange Co, NC from brother Wyatt for 90 lbs.

9/25/1778 He sued Sylvester Adams, details unknown.

2/21/1786 He filed a suit in Guilford County, N C to receive 1000 lb from a judgement of 1778/79 againest George Grayham.

Surry Co, NC. The exact date of the move is uncertain.

2/16/1789 He and his wiife Elizabeth sold the above 164 acres to Archibald Yarbrough for 553 lbs.

Bef 1790 Wilkes Co, NC when he defaulted on his taxes.

His widow Elizabeth and Thomas applied for adminstration of his estate on 08/30/1792.
