8/29/1850 Clear Creek, Cumberland Co, IL. That year the census taker recorded Thomas at 30, a farmer with real estate worth $200. Clarissa was 29, and they had 5 children, all born in IN: Susannah, 10, Josiah, 8, Geo, 6, Peter, 4, and July A, 3. Next door were his parents.
7/2/1860 Prairie City Pct, Majority Point, Cumberland Co, IL. The census listed both Thomas and Clarissa at age 36, born in NC. The family consisted of Josiah, 17, George, 15, Julia A, 17, Thomas, 8, Henry, 6, Lewis, 2, and Elizabeth, 1. Thomas' occupation was farmer and his property had grown to $600/300. His parents lived next door.
6/16/1880 Sumpter Twp, Cumberland Co, IL. The household was a jumble of people that year. Thomas was a 61 year old farmer, wife "Claracy" was 56, and living with them were nephew Wiley Elliott, 13, Frank Myers, 23, farmer, his wife Sarah, 20 (Thomas' daughter?), Joshua Elliott, boarder and student, son Louis, 22, farmer, his wife Malinda, 19.
Some say he was born 5/11/1819 in SC but census records say NC.
Per Teresa Elliott:
Elliott Cemetery is family owned and operated. The land for this cemetery was donated by Mr. Thomas Elliott (1819, d. 1898), and has been taken care by family members since. It sits on a high hill which is very steep and is surrounded by a hedge row. It is located about 4 miles west ot Toledo, IL on Route 121. The cemetery is located in Springpoint Twp., Cumberland County, Illinois. I do have some photographs of this cemetery (mainly Elliott's). There is also a ghost story about the cemetery listed in a book about Cumberland Counties History/Pioneers.
