The two older children were born before James married Alice and considering the gap in ages of the children, there may have been a first wife. James' occupation was locomotive engineer.
6/2/1900 Campbell Twp, Springfield Dist, Greene Co, MO. The census index listed James as Jasper M,, 55, with wife Alice J, 57, and daughter Nellie M, 23. James and Alice had been married for 30 years, had 6 children but only 4 still survived. James was a railroad engineer.
1910 Campbell Twp, Greene Co, MO. They were probably in the same place as last census. By this census time James was a retired engineer at age 65. He and Alice, 67, had been married 40 years with 6 children, 4 of whom were living. The couple lived alone.
