Down the road a James Guy, 19, was counted with John and Leanner Burpoe, both 60. Grandparents? On the next page was father Benjamin, 85, also a wagonmaker, with the family of James Guy, 24.
7/13/1860 PO Martinsville, Baker Twp, Morgan Co, IN. That year the census taker listed Samuel, 60, a farmer with property worth $800/600, with wife Elizabeth, 55, and only two children in the house, Martha, 14, and Presley J, 12. Leaner Burpo, 64, still lived next door.
8/23/1870 Same place. Samuel was listed in the census as a 70 year old farmer with property worth $400/200. Elizabeth was 65 and in the household were daughter Martha, 23, as well as the family of son Presley, 22, farmer, his wife Kitty, 18, and his daughter Laura, 2.
