Notes for Fields Jr PRUITT

Fields name probably came from ancestor, Ann Fields.

Fields has not been verified as Mary's father but he was the only Pruitt in Bond Co, IL 2 years after she married Elisha there plus the fact that one of her sons was named Fields indicates a close relationship, another son was named Martin after her brother-in-law. Also Field's children were in the same places as the Whitley family.

Mercer Co, KY where the couple married.

Abt 1807 Madison Co, IL. Descendants said that the Pruitts and Mary's sister Rhoda and George Cole migrated together but from the following census records, it seems the Coles must have moved later.

1811 St Louis, MO. Fields was named there in probate records of a James Pritchett.

From the History of Bond Co, IL:

"The first Circuit Court was held at Hill's Station, on Monday, May 30, 1817. The State being under a Territorial Government, all the offices were filled by appointment, and were as follows:

The Hon. Jesse B. Thomas, Judge; Daniel Converse, Clerk; Samuel G. Morse, Sheriff; and Charles R. Matheny, State's Attorney. The following persons served as
grand jurors: John Whitley, Sr., Foreman, Soloman Reavis, Fields Pruitt, Coonrod Hoosong, Samuel Davidson, Paul Beck, William Robinson, John Hopton, Robert Gillespie, Benjamin James, Charles Reavis, Charles Steel, Andrew Moody, Absalom Mathews, William McLane, John Whitley, Jr., Peter Hubbard, David White, Francis Kirkpatrick, William Bugess, John Samples, Elijah Powers, Thomas White."

1818 Bond Co, IL. Found in that couny for the first state census were Fields and Solomon Prewit but no Coles. In Fields household were 2 white males over 21 and 9 other whites.

12/16/1820 Powers Twp, Bond Co, IL. At census time Fields was over 45 year old with a family consisting of: 1 male under 10, 1 at 10-15, 2 females under 10, 2 at 10-15, 1 at 26-45. Two people were engaged in agriculture. They were the only Pruitts in the county. John Duncan, future relative of grandchildren, lived 4 doors down and farther down was George and Robert Cole. Several Pruitts were in neighboring Madison Co.

12/12/1830 Morgan Co, IL. At census time Fields "Prewitt" lived between son David and daughter Mary and Elisha Whitley. Fields was 50-60 years old and living with him were: 1 male age 10-15, 1 female at 5-10, 1 age 15-20, 1 at 20-30, and 1 at 50-60. In the same county was Constan Prewitt, 20-30 years old. Who was he? Some of the Madison Co Pruitts then lived in Green Co, IL.
