Phoebe was a sister of David Burket, husband of Mary Ann Zumwalt, i.e. brother and sister married brother and sister.
At census time on 10/21/1850 Phoebe was a 39 year old widow, living in Dist 12, Calloway Co, MO. Children in the house were Elizabeth, 18, Mary J, 16, Julia A, 13, John, 11, Sarah, 8, Isaac, 6, and Singleton, 3, all born in MO. The Hillburn family lived there as well: John Hillburn, 24, farmer, Luvisa, 21, and James, 12. John probably farmed Phoebe's land which was worth $240.
By census time on 6/7/1860 the family had moved a couple of counties over, to Equality Twp, Miller Co, MO, PO Tuscumbia. Daughter Sarah, 17, had stayed behind with the C B Firebaught family. (Why?) Listed as Phoebe Zumalt, 49, occupation Missouri (?), but no property. She still had a houseful with daughter Elizabeth Thomas, 29, her son James H, 1, and John, 19, Isaac, 14, Singleton, 12. John was a laborer. Two doors down were daughter Mary and William Abbot. One of the neighbors was Mary Zumalt, 18, living with William and Mary Miller's family. Who was she?
