This Indenture made this [blank] day of March in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and fourteen
Between William WHITLEY and Lucy his wife and Ann WHITLEY widow and relict of
Elisha WHITLEY dec.d of the one part and John UZZELL of the other part, each of the State of Virginia and county of Isle of Wight

Witnesseth that the Said William WHITLEY and Lucy his wife and Ann WHITLEY for
and in consideration of the sum of Seven hundred dollars to them in hand paid
by the said John UZZELL the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged

Buxton gale }
have granted bargained and Sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these
presents do grant bargain and Sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said
John UZZELL his heirs and assigns

All that tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and fifty acres be the Same more or less lying and being in the county aforesaid and was conveyed to the Said William WHITLEY by his father the aforesaid Elisha WHITLEY as by deed of Gift recorded in the court of the said county, the eighth day of July One thousand eight hundred will more fully appear and bounded as follows

Beginning at an ash in Francis W. BOYKINs Mill Swamp a corner tree in William
PARR's line,
thence along a line of marked trees to a pine a corner tree in Elisha WHITLEY's
line,
then along a line of marked trees to an oak a corner tree in Thomas HALL's and
Elisha WHITLEY's line,
then along a line of marked trees to a pine where corners the lands of Thomas
HALL Pleasents CASEY and William STEPHENS
then along a line of marked trees

to the head of a branch then down the Said branch to Boykins Mill Swamp and down the Said Swamp to the first station
To have And to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and Singular the
appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion
and reversions remainders and remainders rents issues and profits thereof to
him the said John UZZELL his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and
behoof of the said John UZZELL, his heirs and assigns forever
and the said William WHITLEY and Lucy his wife and Ann WHITLEY for themselves
their heirs executors and administrators do hereby covenant and agree to and
with the said John UZZELL his heirs and assigns that they the [said William]
WHITLEY and Lucy his wife and Ann WHITLEY and their heirs the said tract or
parcel of land with its appurtenances unto him the said John UZZELL his heirs
and assigns against them the said William WHITLEY and Lucy his wife and Ann
WHITLEY; their and each of their heirs and against all person whomsoever shall
and will by these presents do forever warrant and defend

The foregoing Indenture and Receipt were acknowledged by William WHITLEY and
Lucy his wife and Ann WHITLEY parties thereto and ordered to be recorded

[John UZZELL died shortly after this transaction, leaving will 19 Mar 1815,
proved 4 Apr 1815; William WHITLEY was one of the witnesses (WB13:467-68).
His widow Nancy UZZELL left will 22 Feb 1841 (codicil 12 Jun 1844), proved
1 Feb 1847 (WB23:294-95), which named as her executrix & principal legatee
Emily, widow of Buxton GALE (mentioned in margin note, above).]
