| As a musician on both piano and organ, I have played in nearly everychurch in Mattoon, often as their primary musician and, as such, havebeen involved in several of the family's weddings. I also worked, first as a Tupperware representative, then at JCPenneys as inventoryclerk/receptionist/secretary before taking a position at Sarah BushLincoln Health Center as an insurance rep. In 1981 when Daletransferred, I also transferred to Richland Memorial Hospital as apatient accounts representative, moving to supervisor of a physiciansbilling office, and finally into the collections area. Uponreturning to Mattoon, I retired until 1993 when I returned to work asthe business office supervisor at Carle Clinic, staying 2 1/2 years. Finally I found time to work on this book and other branches of thefamily. |

Dale and I met in high school but were not high school sweethearts, only dating a few times.
Following his graduation we began datingagain and, although we can't remember who even suggested
marriage, wedecided to tie the knot at Christmas time during my senior year ofhigh school.
However, his mother, insisting there would be nohoneymoon period, prompted the date be moved
so we settled on theprior August. Again, she made the same argument, perhaps hoping wewould
call if off altogether, but instead we moved it to forwardanother month and heard no further
complaints. On the other hand, my father, with pencil and paper ready, sat Daledown to explain the costs associated with setting up housekeeping andmaintaining a family. However, at that time Dale's income was morethan Dad's so it was a short debate and my final year of high schoolwas spent as a married lady. Our wedding photos look like family portraits with both sides of thefamily serving in nearly all positions of the wedding party. |
