Notes for Dorothy Ellen ARTHUR

General Note
She worked in shoe sales, first at Myers Brothers Dept store, then atPhipps Shoe at Young's Dept store. She was a active member of theBaptist Church, the denomination of her family for generations,holding various offices through the years.

Marriage Note
His mother recorded their marriage date as October 23, 1939.Witnessess to the marriage were JD's sister, Ella, and her husband,Harry Parkison. That night they returned to the home of JD's parentswhere they slept among the siblings.

JD and Dorothy loved to play bridge and were often involved in thevarious clubs and tournaments around town. On 10/1989 they celebratedtheir 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the First BaptistChurch where they received an enormous crowd of friends and relatives.

Death Note
Dorothy died of metastatic ovarian cancer of 18 month duration.

Burial Note
The funeral was held at the First Baptist Church in Mattoon on aMonday morning with Rev. E.E. Elliott officating. Pallbearers wererepresentatives of each of her children's families: Sean, Brian, andTodd Van Gundy, Doug McClellan, Cory Buckly, and Kent and Tara Wetzel,Kent being the only non descendant.
