Notes for Brian Douglas VAN GUNDY

General Note
He always loved tools, especially carpentry tools, and rope with whichhe tied bicycles, wagons, and often parked vehicles together. Allthrough his childhood, he carried pliers and/or a screw driver in hispocket. He was curious, following in the footsteps of his uncle, JimThayer, by taking everything apart to see how it worked, often to thechagrin of his parents.

He discovered wood working in a shop class during high school and wasinvolved in building a new house from the ground up. This had theeffect of channeling his interests toward structures and gave him thetraining to attain perfection in his work. From then on he was

involved in building, everything from garages to additions toremodeling projects. When faced with a growing family, he bought alarge old house and proceeded to gut it, one room at a time. Theremodeling lasted for years but the end result was a masterpiece.

For awhile he was self employed solely in construction but seeking jobsecurity and benefits, he joined General Telephone, rising to cablesplicer/troubleman where he has remained for several years.

Ironically, Brian was the only child who objected to the move fromMattoon to Olney when his father was transferred and is now the onlyone left there, rooted by his job and wife's family.
