Notes for John Nimrod VAN GUNDY

General Note

John's middle name was in honor of his Grandfather Neaves.

Residences & events:

Moultrie Co, IL, just west of Bethany. He was a "prosperous farmer"

there according to his wife's obituary.

1919 Following the death of his first wife, he left his 2 year old

son in the care of his parents and joined the Air Force. There he

decided to make a career of it and retired with the rank of Master

Sergeant, having served in both WWII and Korea.

John remarried twice but neither wife wanted his son, Francis, to live

with them so Francis was forced to remain with his grandparents until

adulthood.

Again, a recollection from Dorisgene Webb:

"I enjoyed Uncle John's visits and Aunt Carrie usually came too,

bringing a drink for dad and pop for us kids. Uncle John had a lot of

interesting stories about the Army. I aways thought he as an

important officer!"

Gundy.

Burial Note
His funeral was held in McMullin Funeral Home in Sullivan on Friday at

1:30 PM. He was buried with his first wife and her family.
