According to a letter by brother, Everett, Clarence enlised in WWIwhile still a student in
high school, was wounded severely enough tobe discharged and sent home. This has been disputed
by descendantswho said he was never in the war and the injury was the result ofplaying football. Residences & events: 1938 Macon Co, IL. Following the death of his mother, he and thefamily moved in with his father. Spring 1939 Arcola, Douglas Co, IL. Apparently father could takecare of himself so the family moved out. Clarence worked at the Williams Grain company at Filson, IL,eventually buying it in 1943, renaming it the VanGundy Grain Co. |
