He was a member of the Mattoon Moose Lodge.

Fred liked the "hard sauce". He once disappeared for several days,

then fabricated a story that he had been kidnapped and robbed of a

$400 check in his possession but had managed to escape. The story of

the alledged kidnapping even appeared in the newspaper. Family said

he had just been drunk and wanted to account for the $400 he spent on

alcohol by some other explanation.

Fred died of debility, his family asked that donations be made to the

American Cancer Society rather than sending flowers for his funeral.
