Notes for Ethyle L FLYNN

Death Note
There were several articles in the newspapers concerning her illness

and subsequent death. One stated:

"Mrs. Ethel Flynn VanGundy, wife of John VanGundy died at St.

Mary's hospital in Decatur Monday night after an illness of several

months.

An operation was performed on her last fall in the hopes of

aiding her to recover her health but she never rallied."

Another newspaper said:

"She had spent some time in a hospital in Decatur during which

practically no hope had been entertained for her recovery. She had

rallied and wanted to return home so she was taken from the hospital.

Recently, strong hopes had gathered that she might fully recover, and

she had been able to be wheeled about in a wheel chair, although it

was known that there was a possibility of a relapse at any

time......As a child she was happy, bright, and carefree, and quick to

form lasting friendships. As a young lady she was charming attractive

and popular, and as a wife and mother she will be sorely missed.

Although her many friends knew of her serious illness, they had begun

to hope, and the sudden news of her death came as a shock."

And a third read:

".....For the past year she had been in poor health and about two

weeks ago she returned from Decatur where she had been for six months

in a hospital....."

Burial Note
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 3 PM in the Christian

Church in Sullivan with the sermon by Rev. W.B. Hopper.
