Sister, Mary, shared some memories of her brother: "After Roy's graduation from college, attending both IllinoisCollege and Valparaiso University, he served in the US Army SignalCorps. Much of his enlistment was spent in Germany during the ColdWar period between the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a sports fan (St Louis Cardinal, especially) and an activeparticipant in hunting, fishing, and boating. He once built a boatthat occupied a prominent place in our yard! He and his friends usedit a couple of times on the Illinois River, but it was not very'seaworthy.' In addition to farming, he raised Charolais cattle. Withpurebred bulls he upgraded his herd until it was quite large. He wasregarded as an excellent breeder of Charolais." Both of his sons were adopted. |
