Mary inherited the farm on which she grew up. That farm consisted of land that had been in the Van Gundy family since Adam, some passing from John Van Gundy to the Vannier line back to the Van Gundy side. When shown the old plat maps which contained the farms of both John and Adam, Mary recognized their lands as currently being in her own possession. Of her own career life, Mary stated: "I began working when our children all were in school. In Columbus, IN, I was a secretary in a sheltered workshop, then secretary in a 5-county mental health clinic, a fascinating job which taught me insight and compassion. In Michigan I was first a secretary, then director of public relations for a Goodwill Industries facility, more insight and compassion." |
