He was a farmer and may have married before going to war where heserved with Union forces. Residences & events in his life: 1850 Scott Co, IL. Following the death of his mother, George wassent to live with his uncle, David Van Gundy, Jr, and was listed inthe census there. Hickory Point, Macon Co, IL. He was listed as eligible for 1st ClassVoluntary Army while living in this county. Apparently he had movedeast with his cousins, David's children. 8/16/1862 He enlisted as a Pvt in Co E 116th Regt ILL Vol, from MaconCo. 1866 Mt Zion, Macon Co, IL. Even thought he had been dead for threeyears, he still owned personal property in the county for which taxeswere due. Also listed was a Mrs Van Gundy in Illini Twp who had leftthe county, perhaps his wife. |
