John lived at home until he was 12, when he moved in with his uncle,Joseph Carter. (Perhaps
because he and the step-mother couldn't getalong?) He attended Westfield College from 1871-1873. He then taught schoolin the winters and farmed in the summers. He was listed as a farmer, PO Oakland, IL, in 1879 |
